Virtues of the oil of Calophylle

Calophyllum oil or calophyllum inophyllum

This tree of the Calophyllaceae family is mainly planted on sandy soils along the coast in the Madagascar region. It produces a fruit, a kind of round almond from two to several centimeters. The oil of Calophylla is obtained from the cold pressure of the seeds of the calophyl tree.

This oil contains a waxy fraction which is observed as a kind of yellow-green deposit. A complete oil containing this waxy fraction will be more effective and better tolerated.

From a health perspective

This vegetable oil is special because it has powerful "therapeutic" actions. Therefore, it requires certain precautions of use. It is particularly suitable for "anti-inflammatory" and anti-rheumatic mixtures. It is therefore indicated during muscular, tendinous or articular solicitations and its action is reinforced by the addition ofessential oil of wintergreenEucalyptus citriodora or litsea citrata, but also Helichrysum or cypress. Its circulatory tropism gives it an interesting and protective action for the blood vessels. It will be useful applied in massage during problems of heavy legs, water retention or bad venous circulation. It is recommended locally to facilitate lymphatic drainage.

Its cauterizing, healing and regenerating virtues allow it to be applied to a wound after it has been disinfected. It can therefore be applied to burns, sunburns or insect bites, but also in problems of eczema, psoriasis and shingles.

It will often be associated or mixed with another vegetable oil.

From a cosmetic point of view

It is an excellent tonic and protector of the blood capillaries. It prevents couperose and wrinkles. It tends to rebalance dry and inflamed skin.

Beware however for some sensitive people who may experience intolerance to it. It is therefore imperative to test the application of a few drops of this oil in the fold of the elbow (reaction within 15 minutes) to ensure tolerance. Be sure to use a Calophylla oil containing its waxy fraction.

From a nutritional point of view

Its ingestion is often poorly tolerated. The absorption of its seed seems moreover endowed with a certain toxicity. And its taste will make that one will avoid its use by internal way.
