Eucalyptus radiata - Powerful antibacterial and antiviral

Tissue after tissue, you've been sneezing and running all day. Fatigue overwhelms you and your immune system is totally weakened. In order not to get carried away by immune weakness and weaken yourself even more, the ideal is to treat this cold with aromatherapy. The plants have put their precious essential oils at our service. So why deprive yourself?

Used wisely, essential oils are effective and often much more active than some allopatic drugs. In order to target the most suitable essential oils in case of ENT disorders, opt for those whose biochemical properties are rich in 1.8 cineole of which eucalyptus is a part, but not just any one. Let's be careful and analyze this in depth.

Eucalyptus Radiata

Part of the Myrtaceae family, Eucalyptus essential oil is obtained from the distillation of the long green leaves of this plant so well known as the food of Koala. Originating mainly from Australia, its chemotype informs us that it is rich in 1.8 cineole and that therefore, it has a very important action on the ORL sphere.

Used in preventive as well as curative, the essential oil of eucalyptus radiata is a powerful antibacterial and antiviral. It is thus the ideal essential oil for the boo-boos of the autumn as of the winter which attack the zone nose-throat-ear.
It acts on the high respiratory spheres to know the nose, the upper bronchi and the throat. It is anti-catarrhal (which means "against catarrh". The catarrh is an acute or chronic inflammation of the mucous membranes generating a hypersecretion of mucus at the level of the inflamed zone, being able to be then the seat of infection), mucolytic (which facilitates the expectoration of the bronchial secretions) and expectorant (Fluidifying bronchial facilitating the expectoration of the secretions produced by the respiratory tracts).

Whether by olfaction, inhalation or massage on the chest, the use of radiated eucalyptus is very interesting and will therefore be effective regardless of the method used. However, there are a few precautions to take to avoid any mistakes in use:

  • It is contraindicated during the first 3 months of pregnancy
  • It is totally forbidden for asthmatics
  • It is not indicated for children under 7 years of age

It is essential not to confuse it with the essential oil of eucalyptus globulus which is much more powerful and therefore more dangerous to use. The latter should be avoided throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. The use in children under 10 years is contraindicated. In addition, it will also be prohibited in asthmatics, diabetics, epileptics and people who suffer or have suffered from hormone-dependent cancer. More drying, it risks to cause a useless cough if it is used in diffusion and in inhalation, the risks of burns to the eyes are bigger. Ideally, prefer its sister essential oil of eucalyptus radiata.

Some interesting methods of use

  1. Diluted in a vegetable oil, it can be massaged on the thorax, at the level of the bronchi and the lungs. It will then act directly on the infected area through the skin.
  2. In diffusion with essential oil of Ravintsara or Lemon to disinfect the house in case of epidemic. Purifying a house is very important to prevent germs from proliferating in the home.
  3. By putting a few drops (3 or 4) in a bowl of hot water, you can practice an inhalation to unblock the sinuses and be able to breathe normally. Be careful to protect your eyes because the essential oil of eucalyptus radiata is very irritating for the eyes.

Very popular in autumn and winter, it is interesting not to neglect its use in a therapeutic objective. Therefore, do not hesitate to adopt it for a natural vision in this autumn period.
