Originally, the word "Synergy" refers to a phenomenon whereby several factors act together to create a more powerful overall effect.
In aromatherapy, synergies of essential oils are therefore combinations of several essential oils that make it possible to obtain a versatile mixture with complementary properties. Synergies can also be achieved with essential oils with similar properties, allowing these properties to be multiplied tenfold for greater effectiveness than that obtained with an essential oil alone.
The association of several essential oils has the advantage of taking advantage of the benefits of several aromatic molecules in a single dose and avoiding possible overdosage.
Synergies useful in everyday life
There are many possibilities for synergies, even if not all combinations are good. It is always wise to find out about the effects of the chosen composition and the amount of oil to be taken before use.
The mode of use also needs to be defined: is it a synergy to be used by air diffusion, inhalation, skin application or massage? Depending on the case, some mixtures will be more suitable than others.
Synergies can be used in many situations: for skin and hair, for relaxation, relaxation, meditation, for treating ENT diseases or for cleaning the house.
For example, combinations of essential oils can be used to achieve the following results:
To give your home a springtime look: lemon, lime, wild orange, grapefruit, bergamot...
To work at home: peppermint, cinnamon, rosemary
To reduce allergies: lemon, peppermint, lavender
To fall asleep quickly : Lavender, roman chamomile, wild range
To cure colds: ginger, lemon, tea tree
To relieve headaches: peppermint, rosemary, marjoram, thyme, lavender...
How to choose a quality synergy
Synergies must be created according to certain principles to obtain balanced mixtures. This is why, unless you are a competent aromatherapist, it is advisable to buy your ready-made compositions whose dosages have been established by competent people.
To choose a superior quality composition there are several criteria to check.
The method of plant cultivation and the extraction process of the aromatic molecules must be mentioned to prove the absence of pesticides in the oil.
The mention "100% pure and 100% natural" assures the consumer that the oils have not been diluted or mixed with other non-natural products.
The presence of the chemotype of the plants used. This is the biochemical identity of the oils.
The presence of the H.E.B.B.D label (Botanically and Biochemically Defined Essential Oil) includes all these criteria.
Synergies user guide
As the synergies are composed of essential oils, it is important to know the precautions for their use. Self-medication in aromatherapy can be dangerous due to the concentration of aromatic molecules present in essential oils. Not all synergies have the same instructions for use and while some can be inhaled, others are reserved for diffusion or cutaneous application.
Certain rules must be observed for safe use.
Always look at the instructions of use of the synergies before using them !
The use of synergies must be moderate and is always counted in drops, never in spoons. It is best not to exceed 3-4 days of use without medical advice.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding it is recommended not to take essential oils without medical advice.
Do not administer essential oils to children without a doctor's approval.
Do not use essential oils with people who are allergic, asthmatic or hypersensitive to essential oils or in people with a history of epilepsy or convulsions.
For those with allergies, it is recommended that a test be carried out before use.
Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, ear canals and ano-genital areas.
In case of accidental absorption, call the Poison Control Centre directly. Never drink water!
Synergies are not intended to be injected.
It is important to wash your hands after any skin application.
Synergies are not water-soluble. They do not dissolve in water. Make sure to dilute them first (in liquid soap, vegetable oil, cream).
Be sure to close the bottles tightly and keep them out of the reach of children.
