Summer heatstroke: 5 ways to avoid it

Summer means sun, vacations and relaxation. But as temperatures rise, the body can find itself in trouble. Heatstroke, or hyperthermia, can strike quickly if we don't adopt the right reflexes. So it's essential to understand this phenomenon and implement simple, natural solutions to protect yourself effectively.

What is heat stroke?

Heat stroke occurs when the body's internal temperature exceeds the body's natural ability to regulate it. This overheating can be caused by prolonged exposure to excessive heat, lack of hydration or inappropriate physical activity in direct sunlight.

Warning signs include a feeling of malaise, headaches, nausea, extreme fatigue, profuse sweating (or paradoxically, the absence thereof), and even loss of consciousness. This phenomenon is particularly dangerous for children, the elderly and people with chronic medical conditions.

Here are five simple, natural ways to avoid summer heatstroke.

1. Drink regularly, not just water

Hydration is the first preventive measure. Drink regularly throughout the day, without waiting until you're thirsty. Water remains essential, but you can also diversify your water intake with natural beverages.

Cold infusions based on herbs such as mint, fennel, hibiscus or verbena are excellent alternatives. They also have digestive, calming and refreshing properties. Clear broth, at the end of the day, can also be a solution for replenishing minerals lost through perspiration.

On Santi-shop, for example, we recommend Ayurvedic infusions and/or mint-based digestive teas for a refreshing, thirst-quenching homemade drink.

A simple tip: prepare a large carafe of cold infusion every morning and keep it chilled. This encourages regular hydration throughout the day.

2. Eat light, fresh and lively

In summer, the digestive system is put to the test by the heat. We therefore recommend a lighter diet, rich in water and nutrients. We recommend raw fruit and vegetables, cold soups, whole-grain salads and fresh juices.

Certain foods also help compensate for mineral losses: melon, watermelon, cucumber, zucchini, spinach, dried apricots, sprouted seeds and oilseeds are particularly recommended.

Also consider natural superfoods such as Spirulina, chlorella or sprouted seeds, available from Santi-shop, provide essential vitamins, plant proteins and minerals to support the body without weighing it down.

Organic spirulina tablets, for example, support tonus, remineralize and help boost general vitality without straining the digestive system.

3. Use essential oils to cool down

Some essential oils have a thermoregulating, cooling and soothing effect. Peppermint, in particular, is known for its cooling properties.

One drop diluted in a vegetable oil can be applied to the temples, nape of the neck or wrists. When diffused, it purifies the air and refreshes the indoor environment. True lavender essential oilhelps calm restlessness and promotes sleep despite the heat.

Floral hydrosols such as rose or orange blossom, are also very useful in summer. Sprayed on the face or body, they refresh, soothe and regenerate overheated skin.

All these products are available on our website. However, it is essential to remember that essential oils should be used with caution, especially by children and pregnant women. Always dilute them and perform a skin test before use.

4. Create a cool environment without air conditioning

Even without air conditioning, it's possible to keep your home relatively cool with a few simple gestures. Closing the shutters in the morning, airing out early or late, avoiding the use of unnecessary electrical appliances and placing a damp cloth in front of a fan are all effective tips.

To enhance the feeling of freshness, diffusing essential oils such as eucalyptus radiata, lemon or lemon verbena creates a light, purified atmosphere.

Santi-shop propose various distributors and essential oil synergies for this purpose.

5. Slow down and listen to your body

In summer, the body needs a slower pace. It's important to respect the signs of fatigue, limit physical effort to the cooler hours, and take breaks or naps if necessary.

Natural supplements can support this regulation: magnesium helps reduce muscle fatigue, Bach flowers soothe emotional tension, and calming herbal teas help a good night's sleep.
