Relieve nausea and vomiting with essential oils

Nausea and vomiting is a benign phenomenon but it is still very unpleasant. Fortunately, there are essential oils that can soothe the stomach. Nausea and vomiting will soon be a bad memory!

Do you feel smeared? Do you feel like throwing up but can't? You suffer from nausea. When nausea increases, vomiting often occurs. Your stomach then rejects the pathogens that could attack your body. Most of the time, nausea and vomiting are caused by an infection (gastroenteritis) or by eating too much food or drinking too much water. But stress and motion sickness can also be the cause. Some people are afraid of feeling nauseous as soon as they take a plane or a boat.

The most effective essential oils against nausea and vomiting 

To fight against nausea and vomiting and their inconvenience, here are the most effective essential oils: 

  • Peppermint to calm nausea 

The main asset of peppermint essential oil is to act in 2 complementary ways against nausea and vomiting. First of all, it facilitates digestion and can therefore be used in case of too heavy meals .

It is also an antispasmodic particularly effective to calm the involuntary contractions of the stomach and the diaphragm. The essential oil of peppermint is therefore also ideal for those who suffer from motion sickness. In this case, you can put a drop of oil at the base of your nose as soon as you feel sick. 

It is also possible to calm nausea and vomiting, whatever the cause, by making 

  • melt under the tongue a sugar cube soaked with a drop of essential oil or 
  • by swallowing a glass of warm water mixed with a drop of oil and a teaspoon of honey. 

Peppermint essential oil should not be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women, children under 6 years old, people with a history of hormone-dependent cancers, people with epilepsy and the elderly. This essential oil should not be used on the long term.

  • The essential oil of ginger excellent for digestion 

Rich in monoterpenes, essential oil of ginger is an excellent tonic of the digestive system. It is therefore perfect to accompany people who have feelings of heaviness in the stomach after meals. 

You can then perform a light massage of the belly in a clockwise direction with 2 drops of essential oil diluted in a tablespoon vegetable oil

The essential oil of ginger also has antispasmodic properties. A drop of essential oil on bread crumbs or sugar 3 times a day for a maximum of 2 days can help relieve nausea and vomiting. 

The essential oil of ginger must not be used in the pregnant and nursing woman, the child of less than 7 years, the asthmatic persons without the opinion of an allergist, in the epileptic subject or having history of convulsive disorders.

  • The essential oil of lemon 

Milder than the two previous essential oils, lemon essential oil It can be used in children over 3 years and occasionally in pregnant women over 3 months.

It is nevertheless photosensitizing and should not be applied to skin exposed to the sun. It should also not be used by people treated with cortisone.

Its anti-nausea action allows to fight gently against vomiting and nausea. Its richness in terpenes also makes it a good digestive tonic. You can improve your digestion and treat nausea 

  • by swallowing 3 times a day two drops lemon essential oil on breadcrumbs or half a piece of sugar.

  • Chamomile to soothe the stomach 

With its antispasmodic and calming virtues, the essential oil of Roman chamomile makes it possible to slacken the muscles of the stomach and the diaphragm at the origin of the nauseas and the acid rise .

One drop of essential oil on a ball of bread or half a sugar cube 3 times a day for 2 days will bring relief to your digestive system.

This essential oil should not be used by pregnant women under 3 months, breastfeeding women and babies under 3 months, as well as people allergic to asteraceae.

Anti-nausea essential oil recipes 

We propose a recipe combining several essential oils with complementary virtues to be taken orally. These oils act in synergy to both facilitate digestion and calm digestive spasms. This mixture is therefore as effective for difficult digestions as to fight motion sickness or seasickness. 

To do this, mix in an opaque glass bottle equipped with a dropper:

 The treatment can be done 4 times a day for a maximum of 5 days.

This synergy should not be consumed by pregnant and breastfeeding women, children under 6 years old, people with a history of hormone-dependent cancers or taking cortisone.

If you are prone to seasickness or if flying or driving is enough to give you nausea, here is a synergy of essential oils to inhale that will gently calm these unpleasant sensations.

Simply mix in an opaque glass bottle:

  • 40 drops of essential oil the gingembre
  • 40 drops de citron et 
  • 20 drops peppermint
  • Put 2 to 3 drops on a handkerchief and inhale deeply to chase away feelings of nausea. 

This mixture is proscribed for pregnant and breast-feeding women, children under 6 years old, people with a history of hormone-dependent cancers or treated with cortisone.
