How to treat a burn with essential oils?

All it takes is a little prolonged exposure to the sun, boiling water spilt on the skin or an iron stroke (...) to cause a burn. Burns are one of the most common household accidents. If the burn is superficial and not too extensive, you can treat it with essential oilsThese natural products are highly effective in soothing pain, cleansing wounds and promoting healing.

What kind of burns can essential oils treat? 

There are 3 degrees of burn:

  • The most benign is the first-degree burn. This burn is superficial, localized to the epidermis and not very extensive. The affected area of skin is red and painful.
  • Second-degree burns are deeper, affecting the dermis. It is very painful and results in blistering.
  • Finally, skin affected by a 3rd degree burn becomes insensitive because the nerve endings are affected.

A doctor should be consulted for any second- or third-degree burn, or if it affects a baby or very young child. Only minor first-degree burns can be treated with essential oils. The first thing to do is run the burned skin under a stream of cold water for 10 minutes. Then use essential oils to soothe burn pain, cleanse the lesion and accelerate healing of the damaged epidermis.

Lavender Aspic essential oil ?

When we've just burned ourselves, our first concern is to stop the pain. In this case, the essential oil of Aspic Lavender is then the natural product to adopt to calm the fire of a sunburn or accidental burns. Lavender Aspic's analgesic properties, due to the presence of camphor and linalool, are ideal for soothing painful skin. How to use Lavender Aspic essential oil?

For example, you could use one or two drops of essential oil of Aspic Lavender on the burn and repeat the treatment 4 to 5 times over two hours. You can then prolong the treatment with 3 applications a day for 15 days. 

If you are sensitive to the active ingredients in this oilIf you wish, you can dilute it in a little vegetable oil or St. John's wort oily macerate. It is essential not to expose the treated area to the sun. 

L'Lavender Aspic essential oil is very powerful and should not be used on pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 7 or people with epilepsy. Use with caution on asthmatics.

Lavender Fine essential oil for young children

If you are more than 3 months pregnant, or if you wish to treat burns on a child over 3 years of age, it would be preferable to use Lavender essential oil which will be gentler, yet with properties similar to those of Lavender Aspic.

How to use Lavender Fine essential oil?

L'Lavender Fine essential oil is used in the same way for topical application, preferably diluted in an vegetable oil. Its linalool, terpinene and linalyl acetate content is said to have soothing and healing properties for the skin. It is nevertheless advisable to check that you can tolerate this oil, which is rich in allergenic components, by carrying out a small skin test. This essential oil is not suitable for nursing mothers.

Restore healthy skin with Tea Tree oil 

Skin damaged by burns is no longer a barrier to bacteria and microbes. To help keep them at bay, you can use a essential oil anti-infectious. Thanks to the presence of linalool and limonene, Tea Tree essential oil has excellent antibacterial and immunostimulant properties. It also aids healing.

How to use Tea Tree essential oil?

You could use it by applying to the burn 3 times a day for 5 days 2 drops of Tea Tree mixed with 4 drops of St. John's wort macerate for its anti-inflammatory properties. Caution! St. John's Wort is photosensitizing. Tea Tree essential oil is very powerful and should not be used pure on the skin. Its use is prohibited during pregnancy under 3 months, while breast-feeding, and for children under 3 years of age.

Thanks to its monoterpene alcohols, this oil is highly effective in boosting healing and fighting infection. In fact, it stimulates the production of keratinocytes, the main cells of the epidermis, while tightening tissues and toning the skin. This oil should not be used on children under 3 years of age, pregnant women under 3 months or nursing mothers.
