How to use grapefruit essential oil?
Grapefruit essential oil, from the Latin Citrus Paradisi and of Argentine origin, (in fact an essence) is mainly used as a diffuser to purify the atmosphere in living spaces. It is less well known for its usefulness in blends to combat water retention and cellulite, where it can advantageously replace lemon essence, and for its more general circulatory revitalizing action. Like many Rutaceae essences, grapefruit essence, when used internally, is aperitive, digestive, stimulates circulation, drains the body and promotes slimming.
Its psycho-emotional action, less vigorous than that of lemon essence, also promotes joy and good humor, but with a nuance of sensitivity and emotion. A gentle anti-depressant in a way, it is very useful in cases of illness, particularly serious illness.
In the culinary field, it can be used successfully in desserts, herbal teas and fresh sauces. This "essential oil" is obtained by cold expression (not steam distillation) of the outer part of the fruit rind, and is therefore what some call an essence. Organic quality is absolutely essential when it comes to Rutaceae zest essences, as otherwise it's practically pure pesticide.

Characteristics of grapefruit essential oil
Odor: fresh, sparkling, spicier than orange, characteristic of citrus fruit. The composition of grapefruit oil includes a high proportion of monoterpenes, with limonene in the majority, at around 95% (80% for lemons). As a reminder, limonene is potentially allergenic and irritating to the skin if used pure.
There appears to be no incompatibility between grapefruit oil and certain medications, unlike grapefruit fruit and juice, which can increase their effects and side effects.
