Natural solution against dysmenorrhea (painful periods)

Painful periods are common in late adolescence and premenopause, periods of hormonal imbalance and change.

These pains are generally spasmodic with twinges in the lower abdomen and sometimes even in the back.

Recent studies reveal that the origin of painful periods could come from an imbalance in prostaglandins, hormones resulting from the metabolism of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Some prostaglandins stimulate uterine contractions while others control menstrual pain. For example, prostaglandins derived from the metabolism of omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory effects, while those derived from the metabolism of omega-6 fatty acids promote inflammation.

Logically, the natural treatment of painful periods should be based on correcting the omega-3/omega-6 imbalance.

This is why it is preferable to reduce the consumption of margarine, vegetable fats and animal fats (omega-6) in favor of fatty fish (mackerel, salmon, herring, sardines), oil and flax seeds (omega-3).
