Anti-candida diet: health in the plate yes (but not only)

In the case of proven intestinal candidiasis, oral antifungal treatments may be prescribed. However, they must be combined with a strict diet to work on the terrain (the microbiota), at the risk of re-infestation.

It is possible to act naturally. Here are a few non-exhaustive recommendations you can implement to prevent or improve your condition. At the end of the article, you'll also find a healthy and tasty recipe idea for enjoying breakfast!

Before starting the diet, what is candida albicans?

Candida albicans is a yeast that lives naturally in your digestive system. This fungus feeds mainly on sugar. As a general rule, a sufficiently diverse microbiota will be able to contain it. On the other hand, dysbiosis of the intestinal microbiota can lead to the proliferation of candida albicans. For example, a diet rich in carbohydrates, pregnancy, stress, antibiotics, the pill or acne treatment can all cause an imbalance in the intestinal flora.

Antibiotics wash away everything in their path, both bad and good bacteria. So it's important to take them only when necessary. Natural techniques such as naturopathy can stimulate the body's immune response and self-healing capacities.

Anti-candida diet, what you need in your cupboards

"Prevention is better than cure. In natural health, the watchword is prevention. So, not only is health on your plate, it's also in your natural medicine cabinet:

  • essential oils of oregano origanum compactum, lavender lavandula angustifolia, tea tree melaleuca alternifolia

  • activated carbon

  • colloidal silver

  • grapefruit seed extract

The anti-candida diet starts with avoiding sugar

If candidiasis is confirmed, the first step is to review the entire diet, starting by eliminating all sugars. Of course, this can be done gradually, with support, as it's a long road. Frustration may be part of the process.

Legend has it that there are "good" and "bad" sugars. The good ones are fruit, vegetables, dried fruit, wholegrain cereals, etc... and the bad ones are white sugar and refined cereals, which raise blood sugar levels.

However, whether "good" or "bad", these sugars are still carbohydrates that should not be abused, or even totally eliminated in the first instance when it comes to an anti-candida diet ...

Healthy breakfast recipe for an anti-candida diet

It's okay to gradually eliminate sugar from your diet. But for gourmets who particularly enjoy sweet breakfasts, it can be frustrating ... Here's a recipe to adopt right now for a healthy, gourmet, anti-candida breakfast from Je me libère du sucre by Marion Thelliez, published by Eyrolles.

Pancakes au sarrasin:

  • 120g of sarrasin

  • 300 ml vegetable drink of your choice

  • 2cc chia seeds

  • 2 ccs water

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon yeast

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 pinch salt

Preparation:

Soak the water and chia seeds until the mixture gels.

Mix the vegetable drink with the lemon juice and leave to stand.

In a mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.

Add lemon "milk" and soaked chia.

Mix well.

Heat in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat with a little coconut oil. Finally, cook the pancakes for 2 minutes on each side.

You can spread them with peanut butter or almond puree, accompany it with a mashed banana with unroasted seeds and oilseeds, and drink an infusion of rosemary and mint.

Enjoy your meal!
