Why do I take Krill Oil to get my omegas needed for good health?

The Krill Oil is a patented extract (supercritical CO2) produced from the Euphasia Superba, a crustacean, micro-shrimp-like species located in the deep waters of Antarctica where it is an important food source for whales, seals, penguins and seabirds.Organs are luminescent, making it particularly visible in the ocean.

The oil extracted from the Euphasia Superba contains active ingredients that are unique in quality and exceptional in quantity:

  • Omega-3: particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
  • Phospholipids: phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol and phosphatodylethanolamine
  • Vitamins Aand E: antioxidants

  • Krill and Phospholipids

Phospholipids are favored constituents of cell membranesand exert a protective role against attacks by toxic pollutants and free radicals.

These membranes allow and regulate the exchanges essential to life (absorption of nutrients, oxygen, evacuation of waste...).

When they are rich in fatty acids saturated these membranes are dense and rigid and interfere with these functions. On the contrary, phospholipids formed from omega-3 fatty acidsprovide the cell membrane with more flexibilitythat will ensure optimum intercellular circulation.

Phospholipids also play a prominent role in good brain function. Real food of the brain, they allow to preserve the cognitive, intellectual and nervous functions (learning, memory, vigilance, concentration, mood?).

Krill oilis different from fish oils because of the omega-3s bound to phospholipids, whereas the omega-3s in fish oil are carried by triglycerides.

The phospholipids contribute to a better use and absorption of the omega-3 derivatives (EPA& DHA) by the cells of the human body making this oil more effective than fish oil.

Les phospholipids transport omega-3s directly into cells, allowing the human body to absorb them very easily.

Unlike omega-3-triglycerides (fish oil), omega-3-phospholipids (krill oil) can be absorbed, partially and undigested, by theintestine.

It is a surplus for people who have difficulty digesting fats. Think of people with cystic fibrosis, people with impaired biliary function (or those who have had their gallbladder removed), and anyone whose pancreas creates very difficult digestive juices.

A large number of pathologies (cancer, cardiovascular diseases, senescence....) would be favored by the production of free radicals when it exceeds the antioxidant defense capacities. Krill oil is a significant natural source of antioxidants:

  • Vitamins A: absent in fish oils except cod liver oil
  • Vitamin E: alpha-tocopherol, which is the most common form of vitamin E in the body.
  • Astaxanthin: pigment related to other carotenoids such as beta carotene or lutein. Highly antioxidant compound that cannot be produced by the body and is provided by the diet. Contrary to other carotenoids, astaxanthin is able to cross the hematocerebral and hematoretinal barriers, which gives it a definite advantage (the oxidative phenomenon plays an important role there).
  • Flavonoid totally unknown until now because being the only one extracted from the animal world. It is extracted from a marine biomass and the combination with phospholipids extracted from this same biomass seems to generate a potentiating effect of the anti-oxidant activity

Stability of Krill Oil

There is a classic test to measure the oxidation of virgin oils.

A peroxide level of more than 2 indicates that the product has a high potential for rancidity, which may affect its shelf life
