List of the most contaminated fruits and vegetables

It's no secret that fruits and vegetables are some of the healthiest foods you can eat, but they are also very often contaminated with pesticides. In America, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 75 percent of the population has detectable levels of pesticides in their urine, and of course, food is the most likely and easiest route of exposure.

Eating organic is one of the best ways to reduce your overall exposure to pesticides. A recent study showed that people who had been eating organic food "all their lives" or for a long time had 65 percent less pesticide residue than those who had not.
The ideal is, of course, a completely organic diet, but not everyone can afford (although, in the end, the differences in budgets are not always as great as they are made out to be) or have access to this type of food. In this case, it is important to target the most contaminated foods and replace them with organic.

The report by the NGO Générations Futures groups the foods most contaminated by pesticides. The list of the most contaminated fruits and vegetables:

  1. Grapes
  2. Clementines
  3. Cherries
  4. Grapefruit
  5. Strawberries
  6. Nectarines/Peaches
  7. Oranges
  8. Endives
  9. Lettuce
  10. Celery Rabe
  11. Chillies/peppers

These foods are therefore the ones that should absolutely be favored in organic quality, at the risk of exposing ourselves unnecessarily to more toxins. On the contrary, if you can't afford it, these few fruits and vegetables are considered the safest when it comes to toxins:

  1. Lawyer
  2. Sweet corn
  3. Sweet pea
  4. Onion
  5. Asparagus
  6. Mango
  7. Papaya
  8. Kiwi
  9. Eggplant
  10. Honeydew Melon
  11. Cauliflower

Research shows that organic products have, on average, 180 times less pesticide content than conventional products. If you cannot afford or do not have access to organic produce, remember that eating non-organic fruits and vegetables is better than not eating them at all.

A few other foods to choose, preferably, from the organic aisle: wheat, flour, rice and bread.
Nearly two-thirds of conventional breads analyzed between 2000 and 2013 contained at least one pesticide residue such as glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto's famous Roundup.
Glyphosate has been blamed for the rise of many chronic diseases in Western societies. It also ameliorates the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and toxins that disrupt normal body functions and induce disease. Although based on "limited evidence", it has also been classified as a "potential carcinogen" by the WHO.

It is very important to choose your food well, because it is the basis of your well-being and health. Choose organic whenever possible!
