Used for centuries in traditional Moroccan beauty rituals, ghassoul (or rhassoul) is a 100% natural mineral clay extracted from the Atlas Mountains. Rich in silica, magnesium, calcium and potassium, this fine powder has absorbent and purifying properties, making it a gentle yet effective treatment for body and hair.
Free from surfactants and preservatives, ghassoul acts by adsorption, capturing impurities and excess sebum without altering the skin barrier. Unlike conventional shampoos or shower gels, it doesn't lather, but gently cleanses without disturbing the skin's natural hydrolipidic film or aggressing the scalp.

Ghassoul is a natural clay from the Maghreb region, used for centuries to cleanse hair and body. It is an indispensable component of hammam culture.
Composed of silica, magnesium, iron, aluminum and calcium ions, its cleansing action is quite different from that of a shampoo or soap. Instead of chemically modifying the surface tension of water (surfactant), its cleansing action is purely physical.
Like a blotting paper, ghassoul binds and absorbs particles of grease and impurities, dead cells and dust. These are then washed away with the rinse water.
Ghassoul cleanses gently and thoroughly. It replaces traditional shampoo or shower gel with a gentler wash. What's more, it gives hair a surprising lift. Used on the body, it acts as a very gentle peeling that purifies and smoothes the skin.
Directions for use
- Mix 3-6 tablespoons of powder with approx. 2 tablespoons of warm water.
- Allow this liquid paste to swell briefly.
Hair: apply to damp hair, massage in gently, leave on for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. A single wash is sufficient.
Face/body: for dry skin, we recommend adding a littleargan oil for protection and nutrition.
- Apply a thick layer to the skin, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
- Dry skin and apply a moisturizing cream.
Ghassoul can also be used in place of shampoo and preparatory mask before coloring: it cleanses and purifies the hair, lifting its scales and allowing the color to set.
