A few details about goji berries
Goji berries, here in raw quality, have been consumed for over 1000 years in Asia, and are highly prized in traditional Chinese and Tibetan medicine, where they are reputed to protect the liver, kidneys and eyes, stimulate the immune system, treat respiratory disorders and male infertility, slow neurological aging and combat fatigue and weakness. Their sweet-fruity taste lends a slightly tart, fruity note to mueslis, smoothies, salads and other healthy preparations.
Nowadays, goji berries are also considered very interesting in the West for their antioxidant content. In addition, recent research has identified four specific polysaccharides which, according to in vitro and animal tests, not only have antioxidant, but also immunostimulant, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, anti-infertility and lipid-lowering properties. Unfortunately, data are still insufficient to suggest a therapeutic dosage.
Raw quality" foods are processed at a maximum of 42°C, as enzymes and healthy nutrients (e.g. many vitamins) are destroyed above this temperature.

Precautions for use of goji berries
- Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light, in well-sealed packaging.
- Despite careful processing, traces of peanuts and other nuts may be present.
- No adverse effects are known, but some people may suffer from allergy or intolerance to goji (note that goji belongs to the Solanaceae family, which includes tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, chillies and eggplants).
- There is insufficient data to establish the safety of goji during pregnancy and breast-feeding, but it may stimulate the uterus, so consumption should be limited during pregnancy.
