Guar seed flour also has medicinal properties. Taken thickened by teaspoonful, it quickly gives a feeling of satiety, useful in cases of overweight. It is a dietary supplement that also relieves the metabolism and liver function by binding cholesterol and bile acid in the small intestine.
Its anti-cholesterol and anti-colon cancer effects have been proven. Guar seed flour is also useful for people suffering from diabetes mellitus, transit disorders or haemorrhoids. In fact, the gel it forms with liquids mixes intimately with the food bolus, reducing the absorption of sugars and fats (thus helping to minimize insulin peaks after food intake) and, at the same time, ballasting and hydrating the food bolus, making transit easier and more regular.
Guar seed flour is the ground endosperm of the seeds of guar (Cyamopsis tetragonolobus (L.) Taub, Fabaceae), an annual leguminous plant related to peas and beans, cultivated in Texas and Central America and widely in Pakistan and India.
