All about holistic medicine

While conventional medicine fragments the body and mind, holistic medicine considers the whole person. Discover this new approach to health which is becoming the medicine of tomorrow.

Holistic medicine, an alternative medicine of globality

Body and mind are one, one impacting the other. This is the very foundation of holistic medicine.

Here is a definition of holistic:

What is holistic takes into account a thing in its totality, analyzes something without dividing it into parts, treats the whole rather than a section. "Holistic" is a synonym. The adjective holistic is derived from the concept of holism, developed in the 20th century. It was notably used by the French anthropologist Louis Dumont (1911 - 1998), who distinguished between holistic and individualistic societies. Louis Dumont speaks of individualism for societies where the individual is the supreme value. In the opposite case, he speaks of holism. Holistic societies are traditional societies: the whole dominates over the individual parts. In our modern society, individuals take precedence over the whole.

"Holistic" was built on the ancient Greek ολος, "whole."

Emotions in holistic medicine.

Physicians increasingly agree that the mental is important in the success or resistance of a therapy.

During chronic stress, the adrenal glands eventually become exhausted. This is followed by weight gain, emotional instability, incipient inflammation, a suppressed libido, digestive problems and sometimes thyroid or fertility problems.

Many illnesses are caused by stress. By correcting the base, learning to manage your emotions, you save yourself a lot of pain.

The body in holistic medicine.

Stabbing pain can lead to depression. A decline in motor skills can lead to anxiety about the loss of autonomy. Etc... These examples to simply illustrate thelink between body and mind, between the physical and the psychic.

Conventional medicine sectorizes the fields of action by creating specializations. This is perfect for a precise and punctual application. On the other hand, it is otherwise according to the holistic "philosophy" of this alternative medicine that considers thebody itself as a global entity in addition to the psycho-emotional and spiritual sphere. Thus, a dermatological problem will be relieved for example by an action on the digestive system. Strange! You may say. And yes, because these skin problems will only be seen as symptoms revealing an imbalance further upstream (due to inadequate diet, poorly managed stress ...). In short, the symptom is the tree that hides the forest.

Holistic medicine and spirituality

In the West, where rationalizing and boxing reassures, the word spirituality is frightening. Far from any religious affiliation, spirituality is found in each of you. It is the art of looking at nature with children's eyes, it is appreciating the good moments and not dwelling on the less good ones, it is also becoming aware of one's place in the world and in the Universe and accepting that one cannot explain everything.

Spirituality is unique to each person and allows you to learn to listen to yourself, to decode the signals your body sends, to give importance to your intuition. Indeed, when you know how to listen to that little voice that tells you "you're going too far, you'll end up losing your health", or "go for it! "You respect your needs. When you respect your needs, your emotional state is stable. And when your emotional state is stable or even very good, the body is relaxed and therefore, healthy! It's all about chemistry (and neurotransmitters...).

A comprehensive care in holistic medicine.

During the anamnesis, the practitioner takes a thorough and accurate inventory of the life of the person who comes to consult him or her. Professional projects, lifestyle, eating habits, family and social environment, sports practices, everything is reviewed in order to draw up the most precise and complete portrait possible, the goal being to personalize the therapy as much as possible.

Indeed, while in conventional medicine the treatments remain mostly symptomatic, the protocol implemented in holistic medicine is global and individualized, acting on the physical and psychological spheres.

Holistic medicine takes time...

For results to be sustained, it takes time. As explained throughout this article, management is comprehensive. The practitioner seeks to discover the cause of the cause of your illness (already diagnosed and sometimes treated by your doctor). Once the source of the imbalance is found, the body must take time to regenerate and you, to develop new lifestyle habits (not the easiest thing!)

Holistic medicine is an approach that is both innovative and traditional. It is a perfect complement to conventional medicine which, I would like to emphasize, is indispensable in emergency situations.
