Packaging: Mass POISON

The zero waste or minimalism movement is very fashionable these last months and is taking more and more place in people's mind. Many bloggers are highlighting this new "fashion" in articles or videos and many books are available every week in our favorite bookstores. It becomes a real addiction sometimes and much more than a fashion effect, a conscious way of life.

If we look a little more closely at the phenomenon, we can easily notice that the category of people who are adept at this movement are often those who are already oriented towards organic consumption. It's a question of consistency. When we enter the world of well being, organic and natural, we quickly realize that in addition to the problems related to food, there is another concern which is none other than that of packaging.

Global pollution

Have you ever bought a package of cookies for your kids' snacks? Certainly! Have you ever noticed that in addition to the main package, very often each cookie is individually wrapped? Practical, isn't it? No need to add an extra snack box to your toddler's lunch bag. Saves time in the morning when you are in a hurry. But have you ever looked at the amount of waste this causes? Is it really necessary to pollute the planet to save 3 minutes of your time in the morning (or evening)?

The problem is that today, almost all manufacturers want to make the consumer's life easier and adding packaging seems to be an easy solution and suitable for many. However, our garbage cans are much fuller than they used to be and our oceans are more and more polluted. This is frightening because the repercussions on daily life are enormous and increasingly unacceptable.

Do you know what these packages are made of?

aluminium can

  • Milk cartons or small orange juice cartons (often used by children, again) are covered on the inside with various layers of protection, including polyethylene and aluminum. This aluminum that causes various damages, in the long term, on the health.
  • Food cans and soda cans contain Bisphenol A on the inside, in direct contact with the food. This element is also found in many plastic containers such as water bottles and formerly in baby bottles. This monster is none other than an endocrine disruptor that causes numerous damages on the hormonal system of babies, children and adults.

Pouring cow's milk in a carton into a bottle a few years ago was really worthy of the poison we gave to our children.

Should we blame ourselves? Absolutely not, the information was not given correctly and it was not clear as it is today. We are currently in an era of change where little by little we are becoming aware of the dangers of the world and of this massive industrialization.

Becoming aware is already a beautiful evolution and making the appropriate changes little by little is a big step in our current life.

How to consume safely?

  • By buying mainly in bulk stores where each product purchased can be packaged in a small linen or cotton bag.
  • By refusing packaging if you buy your fruits and vegetables at the farm or market. Bring your baskets to store your purchases.
  • By preferring to drink water in a glass bottle rather than a plastic bottle where phthalates are often found.
  • By adopting glass jars instead of plastic boxes that are useful for storing food in the fridge.
  • By replacing your Teflon cooking pans that contain carcinogens.
  • Avoid heating your prepared and industrial dishes in the microwave because, in addition to the lack of nutrients and vitality in this type of dish, the packaging adapted to this type of cooking releases products that are very harmful to your health.

Find out as much as you can about the items you consume, what you put in your shopping cart and adapt this information with your life possibilities. By adopting one or two new lifestyle habits, you will already be taking a big step in the change and in your evolution towards health and well-being.
