7 tips for a better digestion

When the digestive system goes wrong, the whole body suffers. In addition to "minor" discomforts such as bloating, heartburn, diarrhea or constipation, other symptoms such as fatigue, eczema, food intolerances or weight gain may occur.

Here are 7 simple and effective solutions to take care of your digestive system.

  1. The most basic actions become automatisms that we neglect most of the time. The mastication is a great proof of that! It is however the first step of a good digestion. During this action, food is ground into small pieces and coated with saliva that contains lipase and amylase, two enzymes that respectively pre-digest the fats and starch contained in food. These steps are essential and allow a much easier digestion and assimilation in the stomach and intestine.
  2. One of the main causes that make us forget about chewing is the modern diet. More and more soft and refined, we forget this essential act to our digestive comfort. It is important to focus on real, fresh, whole foods and to avoid processed foods and fast food as much as possible, which are high in salt, sugar and fat. These foods are very difficult for the body to digest and provide no nutritional value.
  3. Fermented foods are rich in good bacteria and help the intestinal flora to regenerate naturally. Sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi, kombucha... are precious allies for a good flora and a good digestion.
  4. Many people with digestive disorders are very dehydrated. If you are in the habit of drinking little, try to increase your daily water intake.
  5. Stress is an aggravating factor for many ailments; digestion is no exception. Consider managing it through meditation, breathing, yoga or walking.
  6. To gently reboot the digestive system, a little detoxification cure can be a very good solution. Probiotics can also be considered to improve and boost gut health.
  7. Listening to your body is also an essential step for digestive comfort. Dietary dogmas and trends are not panaceas for everyone. We are all unique and react in different ways. It is by abandoning these "food ideals" that you will be able to find what suits you best or, on the contrary, what causes you unpleasant problems.
