Facial care: the benefits of vegetable oils on the skin
Vegetable oils have multiple benefits for the organism and the body. The same bottle of oil can therefore be used for a variety of applications: in hair, on the skin, in the manufacture of creams and balms, in food.
These oils contain numerous antioxidants, vitamins and essential fatty acids to provide the skin with everything it needs to regenerate and stay beautiful and young.
Manufacture of vegetable oils for facial care
In order to have a good quality oil no matter what you want to use it for, there are certain factors to look at when buying it and the method of oil extraction is one of them. There are several ways to extract oil from plants: cold or hot pressure extraction, maceration, solvent extraction...Among all the possibilities, only cold pressure extraction and maceration extraction offer superior quality oils with intact skin properties.
Cold pressure extraction: In a mechanical press, the oleaginous fruits are crushed until a pure and 100% natural oil is obtained.
Extraction by maceration: This method is only used for oils obtained from a plant. The flower, root or fruit are being macerated in a neutral oil (olive or sunflower) for several weeks. The oil obtained at the end of this period is filtered and only the oily macerate is kept and then used.
Skin types, which oils to use for the face?
Oils for irritated skin
When your skin is irritated, not all oils are suitable. Indeed, it is preferable to use an oil with soothing properties to calm the irritation. The oils to be used in these cases must be rich in a very specific type of fatty acid: omega-3. These polyunsaturated fatty acids are called "essential" because our body cannot do without them. They are useful for restoring the hydrolipidic film of the skin and thus soothe inflammation of the epidermis.
Oils for dry skin
Dry skin is generally dry because, as with irritated skin, it (almost) no longer has a protective hydrolipidic film. In addition, dry skin is also deeply weakened. Thus, in addition to omega-3, they will need to be nourished and moisturized with additional agents.
Oils for oily skin
The use of oils on oily skin may seem unsuitable, but some of them help the epidermis to regulate its sebum level thanks to specific fatty acids. These oils rebalance the skin's hydrolipidic film and help control skin shine.
Oils for combination skin
Combination skins are those whose T-zone - forehead, nose and chin - tends to release too much sebum, while cheeks and cheekbones are normal or even slightly dry. The oils to be used in these cases must then know how to regulate the sebum rate in both directions (too oily or too dry) and also be composed of alpha-hydroxy to revitalize the face properly.
Oils for pimpled skin
Acneic skin is very sensitive and is often part of the daily life of teenagers, but not only. The problem comes from hyperactivity of the sebaceous glands of the face. The reflex is often to dry the face and the glands but this is not the optimal solution.
The sebum excess informs the skin of the presence of too many bacteria. It is therefore necessary to eliminate them with the help of a suitable oil. In addition, blackheads form as a result of the oxidation of excess sebum on the skin that clogs the pores. It is therefore better to use dry oils that are not very sensitive to oxidation such as jojoba, date or tea tree.
Oils for mature skin
Mature skin above all needs oils with regenerating properties. The carotenoids they contain prevent skin aging. Oils must also be rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids to prevent skin aging and therefore wrinkles.
The best face oils
Most oils have multiple properties but not all are suitable for every situation and each skin has specific needs as explained above. Here is a zoom on the most famous facial oils and their uses.
Coconut oil is versatile. At once moisturizing, antibacterial, healing and soothing, it is ideal for acne and irritated skin.
Argan oil nourishes and moisturizes dry skins and cares for skins subjected to extreme temperatures.
Hemp oil has anti-wrinkle, regenerating and softening properties. It is therefore recommended to prevent skin aging. It also treats dry or skins with problems.
Jojoba oilis a friend to oily skin with a tendency to pimples. It regulates the pH and sebum production of the skin and protects it from bacteria.
Sweet almond oil acts both on wrinkles and on dry and irritated skin. Rich in vitamin A, D and E, it moisturizes, regenerates, protects the epidermis from aggressions and illuminates the complexion.
Grape seed oil is perfect for combination skin because it regulates the production of sebum in addition to having nourishing properties. It is also a good make-up remover.
Other oils such asavocado, rosehip and other flower oils also have many benefits for different skin types.
