Why talk about this essential oil in an article about sleep?

The essential oil of Ravintsara is part of the camphor family and can be easily noticed simply by its botanical name: Cinnamomum camphora CT cineole. From the great botanical lineage of lauraceae, it originates from Madagascar where its very fragrant leaves are extracted to obtain an interesting oil for the whole health sphere of the human being.

Focus on its chemical composition: 1.8 cineole, mono-terpenes, esters and sesquiterpenes. This composition allows this plant and thus this essential oil to bring us reliable therapeutic properties.

We don't automatically think of it because it is not widely used to counteract sleep. Indeed, we are more easily attracted by known smells like lavender or citrus.

Let's not forget the increased effectiveness of Ravintsara

Indeed, its neurotonic properties help enormously in the event of insomnia or powerful anguish which can go until depression. Very often, depressive states lead to sleep disorders that can lead to regular and exhausting insomnia.

By adding a few drops of ravintsara to a complex of neutral vegetable oil and essential oil of lavender, you can obtain a delicate and subtle mixture ideal for people who have difficulty living peaceful nights. The perfect composition would be:

  • 25% essential oil of true lavender called officinal
  • 25% essential oil of ravintsara
  • 50% neutral vegetable oil or aloe vera gel

This preparation should ideally be massaged along the spine before bedtime, in order to induce a restful and serene sleep. Thanks to its interesting biochemical capacities, this mixture will send you directly and calmly to the land of dreams.

If you do not have the possibility to prepare this mixture, you can also use ravintsara hydrosol that you can add to your drinking water. The ideal dosages in hydrolatherapy are from 1 to 3 tablespoons per liter of water for an aromatic drink that will be drunk throughout the day. The effects are very positive on energy, immune balance but also on the positive action of emotions. Indeed, by being positive and in shape all day long, it is then easier to fall asleep with peace in the evening after a day often rich in emotions.

If on the other hand you want to soothe nervous fatigue, anxiety, non-restorative sleep or even insomnia on the long term, the solar plexus will be put forward to restore the situation gently. A few drops of the essential oil on the mentioned area will be used in direct massage to balance the emotional state that puts our natural defenses at half-mast.

As with all essential oils, there are precautions to be aware of. As for Ravintsara, it is not recommended during the first two trimesters of pregnancy, for young children, for nursing mothers and for people with asthma.

A small note to remember: Do not confuse with Ravensare essential oil - Ravensara Aromatica - whose biochemical composition and therefore therapeutic properties are different.
