Your children's breakfast: what to put at the table?

After the first day of school, you are wondering: what is a balanced breakfast for your children? Discover all our tips for a king and queen breakfast according to naturopathic principles.

No more cereals, white bread with butter and jam, brioche with spread and industrial fruit juice that cause blood sugar levels to soar. In breakfast, there is de-fasting. So, take it easy to get the digestive system going again, starting by "opening" the stomach with a warm drink or warm water.

Which hot drink to choose?

After a certain age, your child may complain of stomach aches from taking cow's milk. This is normal: his small intestine no longer produces lactase, the enzyme that breaks down lactose. In this case, don't panic, opt at breakfast for plant-based drinks, especially the one with almonds, and unsweetened infusions of course are a good alternative.

Why almonds? Because they are rich in bio-assimilable calcium which will partially cover your child's needs.

Infusions are extremely beneficial because, when well chosen, they help prevent winter ailments or short-circuit an incipient cold, for example.

If your child digests milk but suffers from repeated ENT infections (ear infections, colds, sinusitis, tonsillitis...), dermatological problems (eczema, psoriasis, acne for the most common) or autoimmune diseases, it might be worth stopping cow's milk because it tends to promote mucus production and be pro-inflammatory.

Protein for a balanced breakfast.

If your child is not a fan ofAnglo-Saxon breakfastwith eggs, you can prepare toast with almond or peanut puree, which are rich in protein. Who says healthy breakfasts aren't gourmet?

Beware of sugars at morning meal.

No more ultra-sweet cereals from the big brands! Hello Organic wholemeal muesli, flower bread, organic wholemeal breads, organic oat flakes... Rice cakes should be avoided because of their very high glycemic index.

Fruit juices are asugar bomb. Once the pulp is removed, they no longer have the fiber to trap the sugar and pass it in the stool. Better to eat the fruit fresh!

Should we still drink fresh orange juice in the morning?

Children have a natural appetite for sugar. However, one must remain vigilant because sugar greatly disrupts the internal balance of their bodies. It is not only an excitant but it alters the intestinal flora, favors fungal diseases (candidiasis), emotional hypersensitivity, hyperactivity and concentration difficulties.

Eating too much sugar at breakfast also causes your blood sugar level to skyrocket and then fall back down again. It's a sure thing at 10:00 a.m.!

Quality fats for a top brain!

First, lipids provide the sensation of satiety. Second, essential fatty acids feed the brain, which is very fond of them. For good learning and memory, consider oilseeds which are an excellent source of omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids, vitamins and trace elements.

A few almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts in the morning for a quality lipid intake.

Fast and Healthy Breakfast Idea

Do you know about smoothie-bawls? You can see them blooming everywhere on social networks. It's a gourmet digest of nutrients and fiber.

In your blinder: 

  • ½ banana, 
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or almond puree
  •  ½ lemon juice, 
  • 1 fresh fruit, 
  • fresh baby spinach (you can't taste it!)  
  • a little bit of vegetable milk for a creamy consistency.

Then add the oilseeds (walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, cashews, Brazil nuts ...), unsalted and unroasted seeds (sunflower, sesame, flax, pumpkin ...) and the rest of the banana or fresh fruit.

Finally, on this base, you can vary the pleasures by adding: dry fruits, chocolate BLACK 75% minimum, protein powder of hemp, acerola, baobab, chia seeds, coconut chips, flaked almonds, granola, muesli ...

A hibiscus-mint infusion for example to accompany and you had prepared them a "healthy" and greedy breakfast!

Finally, we tend to keep the same pattern for breakfast, as a routine, a habit but this meal is like any other! Vary the menus and have fun!
