The health benefits of triglycerides

Are you familiar with medium chain triglycerides? It sounds like a barbaric name, yet medium chain triglycerides are becoming increasingly in vogue. Indeed, people are slowly beginning to learn about the benefits of nutritional ketosis. The principle of the ketogenic diet relies on the major or even total removal of carbohydrates so that the body can enter a ketosis reaction. Healthy fats in higher amounts and medium-dose protein are then added to the diet.

By sharply decreasing one's carbohydrate intake, and replacing it with healthy fats, one allows the foie to act differently. Indeed, this will then produce ketones which are molecules that will become the main energy source of the body.

The body's main source of energy changes

While coconut oil could fit this diet, oils composed of medium chain triglycerides (MCT Oils ) are much more concentrated and therefore more suitable for amedical aspect of this type of dietary adjustment.

What are the health benefits:

  • Reduced appetite and therefore weight loss assured.
  • An improvement in cognitive and neurological function with possible implications in neurodegenerative diseases
  • Increased energy level and improved athletic performance.
  • Improving mitochondrial function and reducing a subsequent risk for diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, or autoimmune disease.
  • Very effective as part of a dietary therapy specializing in the treatment of epilepsy.
  • In prevention for diseases that affect the liver (non-alcohol related)

In recent years, people who are concerned about their health and especially their weight have made the big mistake of cutting fat out of their diets, thinking that it was responsible for their weight gain and unstable health. Many are actually questioning coconut oil. Indeed, they think it is dangerous since it is part of the so-called saturated fats. It remains moreover a food put on "stand by" for many for the insecurity it can bring.

But where are these health-promoting triglycerides?

coconut oil

The composition of the following oils is really advantageous for health because these medium chain triglycerides are not absorbed or stored in the body's fatty tissues and therefore no fat accumulation in the body will be noticed.

  • Butter/coconut oil which contains more than 60% of it
  • Palm oil.
  • Olive oil
  • In butter made from cow's milk, but in much smaller proportions. Indeed, medium chain triglycerides are a composition of milk fat. Attention it is important to note that the butter must be consumed raw and from raw milk too.
  • MCT oils

But also in foods such as :

  • Raw nuts, such as macadamia nuts and pecans
  • Seeds such as black sesame, cumin, pumpkin and hemp seeds
  • The lawyers
  • Grass-fed and organic quality meats
  • Ghee (clarified butter)
  • The cocoa butter called "Raw" therefore raw
  • Only organic egg yolks
  • Omega-3s such as krill oil and small oily fish like sardines and anchovies.

How does it work in our body?

Your body processes medium-chain triglycerides differently than long-chain fats from your diet. Normally, a fat taken from your body must be mixed with bile released from your bile duct and solicited by pancreatic enzymes to break it down in your digestive system.

Medium-chain triglycerides do not require involvement of bile or pancreatic enzymes. Once they reach the gut, they diffuse through your intestinal membrane directly into your bloodstream and are transported directly to your liver, which will naturally convert the oil into ketones.

How to use them?

MCT oils can be consumed every day. There is, however, a protocol to follow and adhere to so as not to be disturbed by possible discomforts. In fact, in high quantities, you risk developing watery stools or gastrointestinal disorders.

I recommend taking no more than 1 teaspoon of MCT oil to start. Do it with another fat, for example, with a handful of nuts, or with ghee in your coffee or any other oil in your salad dressing.

Once you build up your tolerance, you can slowly increase this amount to 4 tablespoons of MCT oil per day.

It is important to realize that MCT oils will not produce weight loss miracles on their own. However, they are an excellent support in a dietary re-harmonization. In addition, the benefits on health and on serious diseases such asAlzheimer's or any other condition related to neuronal degeneration are proven today.
