The neem powder: what is it and how to use it?

Neem powder is a powder that has many properties. Used for a long time in India, it is known for its health benefits but not only! In the past, it was used to cure certain ailments and continues to be used today in Ayurvedic medicine. It is also a natural product that is useful in everyday life, in cooking, cosmetics, medicine and many others. But what exactly is it made of? This powder, so appreciated for its many benefits, is currently found on the Western market in many forms.

Neem, or neem tree, from its scientific name, Azadirachta indica, is a tree that originated in India. It is a plant, often met, in the tropical and semi-tropical regions. Planted in an appropriate climate, the neem tree is an invasive plant. Generally, its height can reach 8 to 10 meters. Note that both the leaves and fruits of the neem tree can be used in many ways. It remains, however, a toxic fruit if used inappropriately.

After much research, the United Nations named this plant as the "tree of the 21st century".

Currently, neem is sold on the market in many forms: powder, vegetable oil, essential oil, capsule. The bark, leaves and seeds are, in fact, transformed to serve many purposes.


Comment la poudre de neem est-elle préparée ?

The neem powder comes from the leaves of the neem tree. To obtain organic powder, the young leaves are dried and then ground into powder. When buying neem powder, it is important to keep an eye on its color. Indeed, the powder extracted from neem should have a green color. However, it happens that neem powders, put on the market are of a greenish color. This is because some manufacturers mix the leaves and bark of neem.

In addition to the powder form, neem is also found in oil form:

  •  Neem essential oil comes from an unrefined cold press of its fruits. This process allows to keep the essential acids of the plant as well as its active ingredients. This form ensures a more effective therapeutic use in the treatment of hair, skin and nails.

  • Theneem vegetable oil requires a slightly longer process. To obtain a quality oil, 6 steps are essential including washing the fruit, draining, pressing, clarifying, decanting and filtering.

In cosmetics, this magical powder is used in skin, hair and teeth care. With its repairing properties, it is excellent in the treatment of certain skin imperfections and some diseases.

It is well known for a natural treatment of people with acneic skin.. Neem powder has a regulating property and often used on oily skin faces. Its application requires preparing a paste that is made from a mixture of hot water and the powder.

The paste is then applied to a clean face or skin. After about 15 minutes of application, it is then rinsed with warm water. It can also be used in a mixture with other natural skin care powders such as clay.clay.

Applied to the hair in the form of hair care, neem powder is used for strengthening the hair roots, but also in the treatment of hair with excess dandruff. It can also be used as an anti-lice treatment.

Mixed with hot water, the powder is prepared as a paste to be applied as a mask to the hair. After a 20 minute to 1 hour exposure time, the hair should be rinsed with warm water.

The neem also known as "village pharmacy" is also used daily for several reasons:

  • A natural pesticide that is very effective: neem has a powerful repellent substance including salannin. It alone can keep away more than 200 species of insects, mites and fungi.

  • A great blood cleanser: In Ayurvedic medicine, neem is used to purify the blood. In fact, it is a natural detox to eliminate excess toxins.

  • A Glycemic regulator: neem is effective in stimulating the liver, regulating blood sugar, and is an excellent appetite awakener.

  • Neem leaf in cooking: In addition to being a medicinal plant, neem can also be used in cooking. The leaves of the plant are concocted in salads, accompanied by other vegetables.

  • Neem as a contraceptive: used as a cream or oil, neem is able to kill sperm during sexual intercourse. It can also prevent STDs.


Précautions

One must, however, remain cautious about using the neemWhatever form it takes, it is also a very toxic plant and can be deadly. To preserve it, it is imperative to put it away from high heat and sun. We advise you to prepare it only when needed.
