The essential oil of ginger, an aromatherapy bomb

The therapeutic powers of the ginger rhizome are already mentioned by Confucius in the 5th century BC. Spice particularly appreciated in the Asian culture, it is famous in the four corners of the world for its aphrodisiac virtues... But, ginger essential oil has more than one trick up its sleeve! Discover in the next lines, the different benefits of ginger in aromatherapy.


Quick presentation of ginger 

Ginger, from its Latin name zingiber officinale is native to tropical Asia. Its strong and spicy scent was once reputed to ward off tiger attacks. Its essential oil is derived from the distillation of the rhizome, i.e. the root. Eaten fresh or powdered, it is used in many dishes and flavors many popular Asian and African drinks. 

Biochemical composition of the essential oil of ginger 

Ginger is mainly composed of: monoterpene and sesquiterpene zingiberenes. The main properties that result from this are:

  • digestive tonic, stomachic, carminative ++++

  • sexual tonic, aphrodisiac

  • analgesic

  • anticatarrahale, expectorant

Thus, we can see that the essential oil of ginger acts on the digestive sphere, on the sexual appetite, while relieving the osteo-articular and musculo-tendinous pains and finally, it supports the explusion of the glaires by the pulmonary ways. 

 

The essential oil of ginger to the rescue of difficult digestion

Ginger EO is a stimulant of the digestive system and the production of gastric juice. It opens the appetite, facilitates digestion, relieves the spasms of the intestines and the uterus. 

Used internally, it can also be used to calm diarrhea, colic, flatulence, a stomach that is a bit churned up or morning sickness.

Prone to motion sickness? Are you pregnant and nausea is a problem? Here is "the" natural remedy to relieve your nausea.  

Prepare an infusion with fresh or powdered ginger 1 hour before departure (or in the morning) then inhale the smell of its essential oil from the bottle every 30 minutes during the trip or regularly during the day and that's it!


The essential oil of ginger, an ally in anti-inflammatory aromatherapy 

Because of its analgesic and warming action, ginger essential oil is a great addition to your natural pharmacy. By adding 2 drops of ginger EO in your care products against arthritis, rheumatism, problems related to poor blood circulation, muscle pain, sprains and strains, you potentiate the action of the latter. 

You can also prepare a massage oil against joint pain with arnica vegetable oil and a few drops of ginger EO. Let stand 48 hours before use to allow the synergy of the two products to fuse.

Caution: In local application, in a cream in a massage oil, the essence should not be used at a concentration higher than 1 or 1.5%.

The essential oil of ginger to relieve respiratory problems. 

When the ENT and/or pulmonary spheres are congested, when you feel an accumulation of mucus inside your sinuses or bronchial tubes, ginger essential oil will facilitate the removal of mucus. This will cause you to cough up fat, spit or blow your nose. At the same time, it will calm the inflammation of the mucus to accelerate the repair of the tissues and thus the healing. 

In addition, the essential oil of ginger reduces fever and stimulates perspiration. 

It is thus perfectly indicated to relieve a catarrh (i.e. an inflammation of the mucous membranes), a cold, a flu, a sinusitis, a sore throat and to calm the cough.

When you think ginger, you think sexual appetite. It has long been recommended to stimulate the libido. It is warming, it dilates the blood vessels and therefore increases the blood supply in the pelvis. 

Symbolically, ginger will give you confidence, increase your tone, and lower inhibiting barriers with subtlety. 

Precautions for use of essential oils 

  • before any cutaneous application, make a test on the skin, the essential oil of ginger being able to irritate certain sensitive skins.

  • Used internally, ginger EO should be mixed with a compote or in a spoonful of your meal

  • EO is contraindicated in children and pregnant women. Only the inhalation from the bottle to fight against nausea is tolerated. 

  • Do not expose to the sun after skin application

  • Be sure to choose a certified and chemotyped essential oil.
