L'huile essentielle de Bergamote, présentation

The bergamot, citrus bergamia, is a small, delicate shrub that grows in southern Italy. Its small round fruits are a melt-in-the-mouth pear variety used to make confectionery, Nancy bergamots. The essential oil is extracted from the skin of the fruit. Speaking of which, did you know that the distinctive flavor of Earl Grey tea came from the bergamot? And that it was one of the most important ingredients in cologne?

Its fragrance combines with cyper, geranium, lavender, lemon, neroli, palmarosa, patchouli and ylang ylang.

Les propriétés de l'HE de Bergamote

The main active ingredient found in bergamot EO is a terpene ester: linalyl acetate at an average rate of 29% and depending on the batch.

It is therefore :

  • anti-infectious

  • anti-bacterial (streptococcus, staphilococcus, meningococcus)

  • antiseptic

  • tonic and stimulating (in low doses)

  • stomachic

  • calming and sedative

  • antispasmodic

  • psoriasis

It thus helps to faccelerate healing and calm inflammation. Its anti-bacterial action cleanses and purifies the skin especially in cases of acne. It also reduces itching and pain by numbing the nerves. Finally, it softens dry and irritated skin.

L'huile essentielle de bergamote pour quel type de peau ?

Bergamot EO is astringent and regulates sebum secretion. It is therefore recommended for combination skins and oily skins with a tendency to acne. For this, you can prepare a purifying synergy with propolis, burdock or green clay and matifying with alum powder for example.

It is also welcome in home-made preparations for oily hair in which the EO of lemon, cedar of the Atlas, of pamplemousseEO, clary sage or laurel will potentiate its effects. In addition, adding bergamot EO to a hair mask with ghassoul will sanitize and pleasantly perfume your hair.

Caution, do not use in the first 3 months of pregnancy.

Bergamot HEcan be added to your homemade deodorant preparations, as it has the ability to mitigate body odor.

In a synergy against insects, its fragrance will prove to be an excellent mosquito repellent.

La bergamote et son pouvoir relaxant

Many bath or massage oils contain bergamot EO. Indeed, it is both invigorating and relaxing. It soothes nervous tension and reduces anxiety.

Tip: in an organic vegetable oil (sweet almond, sesame or jojoba), add 1 drop of bergamot EO. Apply to the chest, at the heart chakra and sternum and gently massage the mixture in while breathing deeply.

L'HE de bergamote comme fixatif

Bergamot essential oil acts as a fixative in cosmetic preparations and perfumes. It allows the final product not to "turn", to stabilize all the odorant molecules.

Précautions d'emploi de l'HE de bergamote

Bergamot essential oil may irritate some sensitive skin. It is recommended that it be diluted at a rate of 1 to 2%.

Like many other essential oils, this one is photosensitizing. It is thus necessary to avoid applying on the skin a product containing EO of bergamot before being exposed to the sun.
