And if we planted trees to clean up our environment...

Since trees and tree attendance are so important to our health, the critical question is how to plant trees in our environment.

Whether trees in public places in the heart of cities, in forests, in private gardens or in the backyards of apartments, they should be made accessible to as many people as possible.

Personal initiatives to plant trees around your home will be beneficial both from the added value of that property and from a health perspective since according to studies, trees provide a 15% health benefit.

In public places and in the heart of cities, this obviously depends on the public authorities who would do well to care about the well-being of their citizens by offering them more green spaces.

Through their process of photosynthesis, which enables their growth, trees reduce carbon dioxide levels and increase oxygen levels. They also improve the quality of the water filtered through the soil and they contribute to maintain or repopulate the fauna, in particular birds which can land there to sing and build their nests, but also for many other animal species to which they provide food.

On a more practical note, hedges or sections oftrees provide natural windbreaks. This way, in winter, they reduce the cooling and save you and the neighboring houses from heating. This argument should be taken into account in these times of budgetary restriction and for ecological reasons.

You are not a gardener and you think you don't have a green thumb? So here are six simple and easy steps for planting your trees.

  1. Get plans of various varieties from a nursery or from some people who get rid of young shoots when their garden is too full.
  2. Dig a large hole and pour water into it until it is flush with the ground. Then wait until the next day when all the water is gone. If this is not the case, then the soil in this area is not permeable enough. This will not allow the tree to feed itself properly via soil water. It is better to change the location of the hole. Sometimes a few meters are enough... Try again with a new hole.
  3. Whether the tree's roots are wrapped in burlap, a plastic bag or contained in a pot, they should be released and the root ball placed deep into the hole without pushing the trunk into the roots. Try to offset the planting so that one side of the hole supports the tree. However, the roots must be implanted deep enough so that the tree is not uprooted by the first wind.tree
  4. Ideally, planting should be done in spring or early fall. It depends on the tree species. Find out more about it.
  5. Then backfill the hole with a mixture of straw, the soil you have removed and water. Pack lightly with your hand, but above all, avoid trampling the soil so that it sinks in, as it may be too compacted.
  6. In the following days, if the soil around the tree becomes too deep, add a little more.

Since nature manages to grow and plant trees by itself, it is likely that with a little perseverance you can do it too!
