DIY: your 100% natural after-sun cream.

After a day in the sun, your skin deserves to be pampered. To take care of it while repairing it, you can easily make an after-sun oil with coconut vegetable oil and carrot oil macerate. This homemade preparation will also have the advantage of prolonging your tan and allowing you to enjoy a healthy glow before and after the summer!

Why take care of your skin after sun exposure

The sun in high doses becomes harmful to the skin. It is responsible for the appearance of free radicals and genetic mutation in the cells. Free radicals are well known to cause premature aging of tissues: wrinkles, spots, loss of elasticity etc...

Normally, cells repair themselves. But, once the exposure is too high in terms of time and frequency, you need to resort to anti-free radical nippers. The after-sun creams thus help to repair the cells. To do this, they must:

  • nourish the upper layer of the epidermis

  • protect the hydrolipidic film found on the surface

  • be anti-inflammatory

  • be moisturizing

The creams and lotions on the market are effective. However, their composition can sometimes be dubious, especially if they do not carry a label guaranteeing the quality of the ingredients (organic, natural ...).

With 3 ingredients, it is possible for you to create by yourself a solid oil to take care of your skin after any sun exposure or even to prolong your tan...

The recipe for a natural after-sun treatment

Ingredients:

  • coconut oil

  • oily macerate of carrot

  • your choice: vanilla bean, a few drops of monoi

Preparation:

  • In a pot, melt 5 tablespoons of coconut oil in a double boiler with the optional vanilla bean.

  • Remove from heat and add 10 ml of carrot oil macerate (and a few drops of monoi if needed).

  • Mix well.

  • Let cool before closing the jar.

This preparation can be stored in a cool place to keep it solid. Indeed, by big heat, the coconut oil tends to liquefy.

Coconut oil to nourish the skin after the sun

Coconut oil is a must in your kitchen and in your natural pharmacy. Applied to the skin, it nourishes it deeply. Its richness in vitamin E gives it extremely interesting anti-oxidant (and therefore anti-free radical) properties. In addition, coconut oil is also known to be anti-infectious and healing. It protects the skin while promoting its healing. It is a formidable asset to relieve sunburn and scalded skin.

By itself, it is a complete natural care for your skin.

The oily macerate of carrot to prolong the tanning

In a previous article dedicated to preparing your skin forsun exposure: "Preparing your skin for the sun", it was mentioned that carrot essential oil "regenerates and revitalizes the epidermis while giving a sun-kissed complexion. In addition, its high content of pro-vitamin A gives it protective properties against the famous UV rays of the first beautiful days and anti-oxidant ".

The oily macerate has the same virtues without the risks of essential oils.

Therefore, the few drops added to your preparation will allow to prepare and prolong your tan while having protective virtues.

Focus on the skin, the largest organ of the human body

The skin is the largest organ of the human body. It is also called integument and represents a surface of 2m² and weighs approximately 3kg. The skin has a role as both a protector while allowing exchanges between the external and internal world. It undergoes many aggressions and this, every day: clothing, sun, wind, cold, heat, shower, cosmetics, scratches, etc...

The radiation from the sun emits ultraviolet (UV) radiation . These are essential for the proper synthesis of vitamin D and for the treatment of skin diseases. However, they can also be harmful by burning the skin more or less deeply: this is sunburn.

To conclude: precautions for using this "home-made" after-sun care

Warning, this DIY is an after sun careand tan gas pedal. It does not protect you as do sunscreens with different indices.

This homemade solid oil is to be applied after the shower at the end of the day or outside of exposure hours. Make sure that it has penetrated the skin before putting on your clothes, at the risk of staining them...
