Gemmotherapy, a natural remedy for dogs

You may already be familiar with gemmotherapy, which is a branch of phytotherapy that uses the buds, young shoots and rootlets of plants macerated in a glycerine solution. It is a natural remedy commonly proposed in naturopathy to relieve all kinds of ailments, whether physical or emotional. But did you know that it can also be used in the field of natural veterinary medicine? Your pets also have the right to the best natural care. In this article, discover how gemmotherapy can help your beloved dogs.

Deux modes de préparation des macérats glycérinés

Préparation en D1 (au 1/10°) de la pharmacopée française

As soon as they are harvested, the plant embryos are put to macerate in a solution of alcohol and glycerin to obtain a 1/20° base macerate. After 3 weeks, this is filtered and then diluted to 1/10° with a water-alcohol-glycerin mixture. These are preparations that can only be found in pharmacies. They are low in concentration and suitable for smaller dogs.

Macérat mère ou macérat concentré

Prepared according to Dr. Pol Henry's original recipe, the plant embryo is macerated in an equal parts mixture of alcohol, water and glycerin. The advantage of this preparation is that it is used in low doses (economical and easy to administer) and is suitable for all types of dogs from pyoungest to oldest.

Durée moyenne d'un traitement en gemmothérapie animalière

For acute illnesses, the duration of the cure is generally 1 week.

For chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis or heart failure, generally, 3 weeks per month for 3 months or 5 days/7 is advised. In any case, it is important to keep a window without any intake to let the body rest. In fact, glycerinated maceratesare powerful drainers for your dog.
